About Dutch Treat

The 13.72-metre Dutch Treat – built in 1953 according to a design by Al Mason – experienced one of the most peculiar adventures ever recorded – and shared – by a Feadship owner. In the spring of 1960 the owner and a few family members sailed to New York but encountered a heavy storm near the dangerous banks at Cape Hatteras in North Carolina. The passengers had to abandon Dutch Treat and transferred to an oil tanker that came to their rescue. Exactly a week later, a captain discovered to his surprise a complete sailing yacht behind the Outer Banks in calm water. It turned out to be Dutch Treat with barely a scratch!
