Because back in Holland American owner Harold M. Mossler was already overseeing the build of his own yacht at Kaag, the 14.31-metre sailboat Freedom. The popular Dutch broadsheet De Volkskrant interviewed Mr Mossler on 24 October 1950 and, in typical Dutch fashion, bluntly asked why he wanted a Dutch yacht. “The Dutch are much better than the Americans at building steel yachts,” Mr Mossler said, adding that the dollar exchange rate made it extra enticing to build in The Netherlands.
