About Maria

Mr Jan Uiterwijk, a Dutchman living in Tampa, Florida who had emigrated to America with his family around 1948, made his fortune with shipping company Uiterwyk Lines. Looking for a motoryacht for sport fishing at sea, he designed Maria with enough space on the aft deck for a fishing cockpit with fishing rods. In 1977 Maria was hoisted aboard one of his own Uiterwyk Lines freighters and set course for Fort Lauderdale. For years she sailed gleefully through Caribbean waters.
