Moyee

1959

This is Moyee

In the summer of 1958, E.G. van de Stadt, Zaandam, designed this 13.62-metre steel sailing yacht with auxiliary engine for the Englishman Harold Flory. Flory actually intended to have only the hull made in Aalsmeer, but in the autumn of 1958 he decided to have the yacht completely finished by the shipyard. The story goes that Mr Flory was struck by the Dutch phrase ‘Mooi huh?’ (‘It’s nice, right?’) every time his boat was mentioned by the locals. He then decided to phonetically transcribe the compliment and baptised his yacht Moyee.
