Oranje was designed by H.W. de Voogt for the Rijksvaartuigendienst in The Hague and was destined for the government of Suriname. The keel was laid on 28 February 1957. The then governor of Suriname, J. van Tilburg, visited the shipyard in May to get an impression of the build, and he turned out to be very satisfied. After her launch, Oranje was placed on the deck of MS Hera, bound for Paramaribo. The current whereabouts of Oranje are unknown, she was last spotted in 1978, when Queen Juliana made a trip on the then 21-year-old yacht whilst visiting Suriname.
