Capital gain: Feadship to build new facility in Amsterdam
We have some seriously exciting news to share with you! It’s just been announced that Feadship is going to open a giant new construction and refit facility in the heart of Amsterdam. In 2019, the trendy Western harbour area of the Dutch capital will be home to the fourth Feadship facility. Feadships of up to 160 metres in length will be launched from this new icon on the Amsterdam skyline.
Boosting the economy
The new facility will also give a significant boost to the economy in the Amsterdam region, creating some 150 new jobs for skilled yacht builders, many of whom will be trained in our Feadship training schools. Feadship has worked closely with Amsterdam Council and the port authorities to find a fantastic new location in one of the most dynamic areas of the city.
A start will be made with laying the foundations this summer and proper construction will start early next year. The Amsterdam yard will include a 5500 m² hall that will be an incredible 28 metres high and able to accommodate new builds of up to 160 metres along with refits of existing Feadships. There will also be a dry dock and ten separate workshops.
Future proof
Along with the Koninklijke De Vries yards in Aalsmeer and Makkum, the new yard in Amsterdam brings the total number of Feadship facilities in the Netherlands to four. Our Kaag Island facility and its waterfront is to enjoy a comprehensive refurbishment, part of a future-proofing investment plan designed to ensure that Feadship continues to rule the waves and the meet ever-increasing demands for pure custom Feadships.
