Moon Sand shines at her launch

Bringing form and function together more smoothly than ever

An intimate ceremony at our yard in Makkum last Saturday saw the launch of the 44.20 m Feadship Moon Sand. From her bridge deck wing stations to the main deck lifting pool, the owners have successfully combined their love of practicality with a passion for pleasure and perfection. They were closely involved in shaping Moon Sand’s looks, feel and function with De Voogt Design and the interior designers at Bannenberg & Rowell. Add in the dedication of the Feadship craftsmen and engineers and you have the perfect recipe for superyacht teamwork.

Moon Sand is a testimony to the design excellence Feadship can offer clients ourselves in-house. There are many examples but one of our favourites is the way Moon Sand’s modern superstructure element rises above the classic Feadship bow in a fine blend of the contemporary and traditional. From the outset, the highly experienced owners focused on three elements for their new yacht – light, space and freedom of choice in terms of recreation. You can read how this panned out in practice in the official press release. Here are a few points to look out for on the image:

• Giant windows and a lack of mullions offer amazing views from the primary owner and guest areas.
• Expansive aft deck areas and lots of loose seating on the main and bridge decks. Note how the stairs have been placed starboard to maximise space.
• The tender is located on the sun deck rather than in its own garage, making space for a swimming pool on the main deck aft: an ingenious floor system lowers down to provide the pool depth required.
• The sun deck crane can be moved into a longitudinal position once the tender is launched to create a spacious entertainment zone.

Even the smallest details are important to Moon Sand's owners and I'm proud to have been a part of this project. Working with Feadship makes everything achievable as it knows that the key to a truly magnificent yacht is not just what you see, but also the meticulous attention to detail that you don't.

We have to tell you a little more about this swimming pool as it is a fabulous example of how Feadship can meet owner desires. A contraflow system means the pool can be used for some serious swimming, yet when the exercise is over the main deck floor can be raised halfway to create a shallow pool for the kids. Come the evening, the floor returns to its flush position and the main deck aft is transformed into a lovely place for an al fresco dinner. Now that’s what we call pure custom…
