Thinking big at Feadship

With the three current Feadship yards in Aalsmeer, Kaag and Makkum being upgraded and a fourth facility due to open in Amsterdam in 2019, we now have the capacity to build Feadships of up to 160 metres in length. While remaining as committed as ever to serving clients looking for Feadships in the medium-size sector, we’re also playing our full part in an overall industry shift towards ever larger superyachts.

Currently we have no fewer than six Feadships over 80 metres in length under construction. They will join an elite ten-strong fleet of Feadships launched since 2004 that have surpassed the eighty-metre mark. The first was the amazing Ecstasea, a 30-knot speed machine with a helicopter hangar in her bow that took the superyacht market by storm.

The big hitters really started rolling off the slipways from 2011 onwards, however. Air and two 88-metre masterpieces in the form of Musashi and Fountainhead. While Air’s unique matt black hull set a new precedent for exterior paint, Musashi and Fountainhead used their expansive outdoor spaces to take al fresco living to new heights. Two years later the blue-hulled 99-metre Madame GU became the largest yacht launched to date in the Netherlands.

The year 2015 was a vintage one for large Feadships. The world’s first hybrid motor-superyacht, the 84-metre Savannah, won the title of World Superyacht of the Year. The 93-metre Royal Romance made the most of her vast size to include a 12-metre-long swimming pool that is four metres wide, 1.4 metres deep and can be emptied in three minutes. Meanwhile, the emblematic hundred-metre barrier was crossed with the 102-metre Symphony. This was the first Feadship to be fully compliant with the new Passenger Yacht Code regulations, allowing more than twelve guests to stay on board.

Last year Feadship launched the 97-metre Vertigo, the creative execution of which raised the bar of superyacht design to new levels of sophistication. In the same year the 92-metre Aquarius drove home the point that experienced owners can use all their know-how to partner with Feadship on a bespoke giant of the seas. And the fact that Feadship also launched the 70-metre Joy, 66-metre Vanish and a trio of 34-metre Feadships called Avatar, Moon Sand Too and Kamino during 2016 again underscores our ability to meet the needs of all those who wish to experience Feadship’s unrivalled quality in a size that suits their sailing style.
