The rebuild of the 42-metre Istros combined the heritage of generations past with the highest standards of Feadship quality. Circular thinking prevailed throughout, including the engineering of the original classic hull. An all-new aluminium superstructure was added and Istros was given a family-oriented interior that blended contemporary and classic elements in a sunny Scandinavian style.
Relaunched in 2020, Istros has the first Lloyd’s-approved microturbine generator fitted on a superyacht. The specially developed 65kW generator runs on diesel fuel and delivers a direct current. The DC power output is used to charge the connected peak-shaving battery pack, from where the main busbar is supplied via a DC-AC converter. With the combustion optimised, no additional exhaust gas treatment system is needed to achieve IMO Tier III emission regulations. This makes the system more eco-efficient than a diesel engine with after-treatment. Discover the story behind this groundbreaking project in our article.
