This beautiful yacht was the last large wooden motor yacht built by the shipyard in Aalsmeer; when construction began in July 1958 it heralded the end of traditional timber construction at the shipyard. (Two years earlier, in 1956, the 17.33-metre Zwerver (Wanderer) was the yard’s last large wooden sailing yacht.) The design was by H.W. de Voogt, but Ernst Vossnack from the design agency of Rotterdamsche Lloyd had an important influence on the design as well: The client was the Rotterdam shipowner B.E. Ruys of the Koninklijke Rotterdamsche Lloyd. Sirocco was a composite built, twin-screw wooden motor yacht with an overall length of 25.43-metre and 5.14-metre beam.
