Paraiso

1983

This is Paraiso

Paraiso is half of a pair of near identical twins with Azteca that was built for the late Mexican media mogul Emilio Azcárraga. Both yachts were built in aluminium in keeping with the owner’s penchant for speed. The faceted solarium superstructures inset with glass were very radical for their time. The interior panelling was bird’s-eye maple, one of Jon Bannenberg’s favourites. On Paraiso, it was stained a dark tobacco colour to contrast with quilted buttery leather. As Jon’s son Dickie Bannenberg once noted, the hulls looked like a sheet of card folded up to contain the main deck accommodation.
