Feadship has successfully completed a ten-week refit of one of the most renowned superyachts in the Feadship fleet, the 72-metre Utopia. The project was accomplished in a record time for all the activities involved in order to ensure that the owners could return to Utopia in time for the new season. 

Originally launched in 2004, Utopia came back for the third time to Feadship for a refit in April following the previously successful projects in 2008/2009 and 2013. The main reason the owners exclusively commission Feadship for major upgrades to Utopia is to ensure that the essence of her original build and unique Feadship character are maintained.

This latest project was carefully organised by the owners’ representatives and the Feadship refit team in order to meet the owners’ budget and summer cruising schedule. In a record time of just two and a half months, the Feadship yard in Makkum was responsible for repainting Utopia’s cabin walls, mast and foredeck. The underwater ship was blasted and a new AF system applied. 

A range of technical enhancements and refurbishments were also carried out along with activities related to the 15-year survey by Lloyd’s. In addition, technical systems were upgraded in the engine room so that Utopia can spend even longer periods in all the main cruising destinations.

Utopia was relaunched in tip-top condition and on schedule at the end of June. “This project has once again made sure that Utopia has the highest pedigree possible in the world today,” said Captain Kevin Collins before setting course for southern Europe. “The owners are now looking forward to putting their better-than-new Feadship through her paces as they embark on their next adventures.”
